Broxburn United Sports Club

Broxburn United Sports Club, BUSC, was formed in 2001 and brought together Broxburn Athletic Juniors, Broxburn Athletic Colts, Uphall Amateurs and the local bowling club to form a community based sports club for the Broxburn and surrounding area.

In the following years the Club grew in size,  2006 saw Uphall Diamonds Football Club join. BUSC now caters for approximately 500 young people from ages 5 up to 19.

The concept of BUSC is to form a community managed sporting hub at  Stuartfield / Albyn Park. To cater for the growing demand for sport in the area. The project will bring together a new pavillion complex and the first "third generation " synthetic pitch in West Lothian, this pitch replacing the grass at Albyn Park.

The new facility will have a major impact on the delivery of community sport in Broxburn and surrounding area, contributing to increased participation in sport and physical activity.

  • The facilities will be available to schools and for "one off, ad hoc " events
  • The facilities will have a state of the art changing room complex and meeting rooms.

Sunday 7th September 2007 ........... Sponsored walk / fun day

On Sunday 7th September the youth football teams involved with BUSC : Broxburn Colts and Uphall Diamonds took part in a Sponsored Walk, to show their support for BUSC and to raise some funds.

Over 250 players from both clubs assembled in Uphall and marched the couple of miles to Albyn Park, the home of Broxburn Juniors. With coaches, parents and supporters the numbers had swelled to over 300. Showing the community support for BUSC.

Once inside Albyn Park the teams posed for a photograph and then settled down for some afternoon entertainment, penalty shoot outs, crossbar challenge etc.

A good afternoon, despite the weather, with money raised and support shown for BUSC.

PITCHES IN UPHALL / BROXBURN

One of the aims of BUSC is to try and take control of the bookings for pitches in Uphall / Broxburn. ............ Why do they want to do that? The pictures below should show why.

Holmes Park was repaired by the council during the summer but the park sustained major damage during the flooding in September / October. As a result the Uphall Diamonds teams aranged to play elsewhere. Other teams however, amateur sides / pub teams continued to use the pitch, seemingly going on the theory of " have booking - will play " regardless of the condition of the pitch.

As a result the pitch on Holmes Park has been pretty well destroyed.

Note that the pictures were taken four days after the last game, four pretty well dry days. What was kind of state must the park have been in on the game day !

The midfield "swamp"

This is one of the areas that was repaired by the council, new turf put down but washed away in the flood. The resulting hole which has grown over time is about 6" deep and is permanently full of water and mud. Could a pitch be playable or safe with damage like this ?

The far side penalty spot ... its there somewhere !
